Hockey Scoreboard FAQs
How much does a hockey scoreboard cost?
A hockey scoreboard typically costs $6,000 to $15,000, depending on size, how many penalty timers and stats it shows, and how it is mounted. Rink sightlines and penalty timer needs drive most of the configuration, and indoor LED video displays start around $35,000. See realistic ranges by sport and feature tier in our scoreboard cost guide.
What types of hockey scoreboards are available?
Hockey scoreboards come in three main types: wall-mounted single-sided boards, from 8 feet wide for community rinks to 24 feet for large arenas; center-hung boards with four or more faces, for venues with seating on every side; and LED video displays. Most rinks pair the scoreboard with goal lights, and larger venues add LED displays, ribbon boards, and stat panels. Schedule a facility evaluation to find the right type for your rink.
What is the best scoreboard for a high school or community rink?
For most high school and community rinks, a full-featured wall-mounted scoreboard with two player numbers and penalty timers per team covers every game situation. Nevco’s best-selling Model 4770 is built this way, and shots on goal and goal lights can be added as needed. Rinks with seating on more than one side often choose a center-hung board instead. Start with our custom scoreboard designer to build your rink setup and request a quote.
What size hockey scoreboard do I need?
Nevco hockey scoreboards range from 8-foot wall-mounted boards to 24-foot boards and center-hung four-face displays. The right size depends on the distance from the board to the farthest seat, whether fans sit on one side or around the rink, and how many penalty timers and stats you want to show. Larger boards step up from 13-inch to 18-inch digits for longer viewing distances. Nevco discusses sightlines during a free facility evaluation and recommends the right size before you order.
What do the numbers on a hockey scoreboard mean?
Beyond the score and game clock, PERIOD shows the current period and SHOTS ON GOAL counts each team’s shots. Penalty timers show the time left on each penalty, and on full-featured boards a player number shows who is serving it. Most boards track two penalties per team at once, since a team can have two players in the penalty box at the same time. See these features on the Model 4770 scoreboard.
How do hockey goal lights work?
A goal light sits behind each net and signals the officials and fans. The red light shows that a goal has been scored, and the green light shows that time has expired at the end of a period, so a red light cannot count once the green light is on. Nevco goal light systems mount on the glass, the boards, or a nearby post. The lights connect to the scoreboard clock, so the green light comes on automatically when time expires. See Nevco hockey goal light systems.
How do you operate a hockey scoreboard?
A hockey scoreboard is run from a controller in the scorer’s box, where the operator runs the game clock and enters goals, shots, penalties, and player numbers. Nevco hockey scoreboards run on the MPCW-7 console controller or the MPCX2 handheld controller. Explore our scoreboard controls.
Does Nevco make portable hockey scoreboards?
Nevco does not currently offer a battery-operated portable hockey scoreboard. Nevco hockey scoreboards are permanent wall-mounted or center-hung installations sized to the rink. To show game time in locker rooms, hallways, or concession areas, Nevco’s Model 700 and Model 750 displays mirror the main scoreboard’s clock over a single cat5 cable. See the Model 700.
Can a hockey scoreboard show video and replays?
Yes. A Nevco LED video display, as a center-hung system or a wall-mounted screen, shows live video, replays, and sponsor graphics alongside the score. Ribbon boards can run alongside the video display from Nevco ONE Video Pro or Display Director, Nevco’s content management systems, and Nevco ONE Video Pro has no subscription fee. Explore our LED video displays.
How do rinks fund a hockey scoreboard?
Many schools and rinks offset part or all of the cost through local sponsorships. Hockey scoreboards can include sponsor panels, and LED displays and ribbon boards give local businesses ad space at every game. Through Nevco Media Group, schools and rinks can offset up to 100% of the cost, with Nevco Media Group selling and managing the sponsorships on the facility’s behalf. See how Nevco Media Group works.
