Poteau Public Schools conveys pride with new Nevco LED Video Display
New scoring solution at Costner Stadium opens up opportunities for Oklahoma community
EDWARDSVILLE, IL, June 9, 2023 – From Friday night clashes on the football field in the fall to commencement ceremonies in the spring, Costner Stadium unites the families of Poteau, OK. A place where many memories have been collected can now be captured on a new video display that is enriching the experience for all in this eastern Oklahoma community.
The Poteau Public School District chose Nevco Sports, LLC to light up the field with a full-color 10mm LED Video Display, measuring 13.05’H by 31.5’W. Home to middle and high school football, soccer and track and field programs; youth activities and events such as Poteau Bandits football and the Poteau Kiwanis Club Little Olympics; and generations of high school seniors who have earned their diplomas, there is plenty for Poteau to celebrate. That also includes state championships in football (2019), boys soccer (2013) and girls track (1979).
“We reviewed many proposals and designs and at the end of the day, Nevco provided the best value for our situation. From initial concept through installation, we could not have asked for a better experience than we had with Nevco,” said Devin Cochran, Director of Operations at Poteau Public Schools. “We had experience with Nevco previously and Nevco representative Sam Leben has been awesome. Any time we have needed help, Sam has been a great resource for us.”
More than 368,000 pixels are grabbing the attention of those inside the 2,800-seat stadium, providing an up-close view to the action on the field. Poteau has virtually limitless inventory to feature highlights, team introductions, school sponsors and supporters, key information, interactive graphics and prompts to raise school spirit and engagement, and more through the power of Nevco Creative Services, raising the bar for the atmosphere on game-day and other important events.
But there was one unexpected event that Cochran said was key in helping the district decide which provider to choose for its new video display. A microburst hit the town last summer, knocking down one of the scoreboards, and it left things uncertain for the 2022 football season until they saw Nevco’s response.
“We were a little concerned if we were going to have a scoreboard for the football season starting in early September,” Cochran recalled. “But, with some help from Eastern Oklahoma Fabricators, Sam and Jeff Besserman (Nevco Director of Sports Video) we were able to get the fixed digit portion of the new scoreboard built and shipped to us as a backup in case the old board didn’t fire up after it was stood back up. Once we got it standing again, Sam came down and helped us get it going and we actually used the old scoreboard for the entire season.”
“It was that kind of service from Nevco that confirmed our decision to use them for the video board was the right one.”
The display is prominently featured atop a custom strip LED football scoreboard with Electronic Team Names, allowing the district to feature the names of all teams who play at the facility for a personalized experience. Signage is showcased above the display and beneath the scoreboard with the top proudly displaying “Poteau Pirates” and the bottom providing space for sponsorships. Topping off the entire scoring solution is a Decorative Arch Truss displaying the school mascot. The upgrades were completed with a set of DGT-6-T14 Field Timers.
