The Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles are soaring to new heights
Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles are soaring to new heights with their new and improved upgrades to Alico Arena and upcoming improvements to their Softball Stadium thanks to the state-of-the-art scoring and display solutions designed by Nevco. After all the infrastructure setup and improvements to Alico Arena were completed, the Nevco equipment was installed in just 5 days. The main component of the install, a center hung, 4-face, full color LED Video Display, hangs prominently at center court; and is over 8 feet tall, over 12 feet wide, and features a 360 degree full color, LED ring to ensure fans are fired up from any seat in the Arena.
FGCU worked with Nevco to further customize the video display with the creation of a FGCU logo for the bottom; along with a three dimensional Eagle’s head and raised brushed 3D aluminum lettering for the corners of the display. The one-of-a-kind designed Eagle’s head and lettering make a distinct statement as you walk into the Arena.
In addition to the massive center-hung LED Video Display, Nevco outfitted the entire arena with a breadth of their product assortment: 40 ft of vibrant 10mm, full color, LED Scorers’ Tables stretch along the sideline and two 20 ft full color, LED Scorers’ Tables are on each baseline providing additional TV advertising opportunities; Nevco’s new Shot Clocks with game time are mounted on both main basketball goals; End of Period lights shine on the backboards; and two custom strip scoreboards with Electronic Team Names (ETN’s) fill the corners of the arena. The scoreboards featuring ETN’s were a necessity for FGCU, as they are used for intramurals and camps and will eventually be utilized for more practices as the Alico Arena expansion is completed. Hidden away from the spectator’s eye, Nevco also installed 9 locker room clocks that display the same time as the scoreboard timer and integrated their custom video “Display Director” software with the University’s ESPN3 Video production making the content even more compelling for fans and student-athletes alike. Nevco’s proprietary Display Director software allows FGCU’s game-day operations to be easily managed through one, universal, touchscreen operating system.
The new head-turning, center-hung video display replaces a previously installed Daktronics scoreboard that stood since Alico Arena opened in 2002. After an extensive and comprehensive proposal process, Nevco was selected as the vendor to provide all of the video and scoring equipment for the project.
Billy Blood, FGCU’s Associate Athletic Director of Internal Affairs, assisted with the coordination and management of the project from start to finish. Once Nevco was awarded the project, the skilled Nevco team collaborated with FGCU to create an atmosphere in the arena that provides fans a game time experience unlike any other.

The impressive team effort and Nevco equipment spoke for itself at Alico Arena and moved FGCU forward to confide further in the skilled Nevco team to provide the Eagles with another impactful upgraded scoring solution; this time for their Softball field.
The Softball full color, LED Video Display will measure approximately 11 feet high by 16 feet wide and will feature live game action, instant replays, sponsor information, and animated graphics with the help from Nevco’s Display Director software. The mesmerizing 20mm display will sit atop a 28’ wide Nevco 1604 scoreboard with Electronic Team Names and will include an imprinted FGCU logo. To further maximize their impact, the new Florida Gulf Coast University softball scoring display will include custom signage on the top and sides featuring decorative three dimensional letters and logos to match the decorative accents on Alico Arena’s center hung scoring display. The customization was important for FGCU to help continue cohesion between the Athletics facilities from a design perspective.
