Ottawa High School steps up home court advantage with new Nevco Video Scoring Solution

Kingman Gym’s new look debuts this year

EDWARDSVILLE, IL, September 7, 2022 – A new era has begun for the Ottawa Pirates in Ottawa, IL where a new display highlights the upgrades inside historic Kingman Gym that will capture all the elements and traditions of game-day starting this fall.

Ottawa High School chose Nevco Sports, LLC to light up Kingman Gym, which was named “Best Illinois High School Gym” in 2020, with a new full-color 6mm LED Video Display measuring nearly 8’H and 15’W. Well known for hosting tournaments, regionals and sectional play-off games, Ottawa’s new display is sure to captivate athletes, coaches and fans for years to come.

“It has been an honor to work with the people at Ottawa and a venue with so much history,” said Josh Robbers, Regional Video Display Consultant for Nevco. “This upgrade at Kingman Gym will add an exciting new chapter to that history and unleash even more potential for Ottawa to create the ultimate game-day atmosphere and experience in its own vision for not only Pirate fans but all teams who visit this special venue.”

Through Nevco Creative Services, the new display will capture all the exciting action on the court from basketball to volleyball and wrestling and keep the crowd engaged through its unique graphics and fan prompts. With virtually limitless inventory, the Pirates will be able to utilize the video board to promote school sponsors and supporters, generating additional revenue for the school.

The new video display sits atop a custom Model 2700 scoreboard with white striping, standout amber and red LED digits and flanking non-illuminated signage featuring the school mascot to make it unmistakably Ottawa. The scoreboard features electronic team names that allow for customization of “Home” and “Guest” to any team name, adding an additional personalized element when the Pirates host other teams and tournaments. Finishing off the display is signage sitting prominently on top and below the display featuring gym name and donor recognition. The upgrade at Kingman Gym was completed with a set of SSC-T5 shot clocks and end of period lights for basketball season.
