KOKOMO HIGH SCHOOL ENHANCES GAME-DAYS AT HISTORIC MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM WITH NEVCO VIDEO DISPLAY AND SCORING SOLUTION
GREENVILLE, IL, February 7, 2020 – Kokomo High School in Kokomo, IN partnered with Nevco to equip the historic Memorial Gymnasium with a new Video Display and Scoring Solution to enhance game-days and engage fans like never before. Memorial Gymnasium played host to the 2020 Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Wrestling Championship in January, and will host the 2020 Basketball Day Indiana on Saturday, February 8.
For the past 70 years, Memorial Gymnasium has been the home of the Kokomo Wildkats. At the time of its dedication in 1949, Memorial Gymnasium was the largest athletic complex in the state, with a capacity of 7,200. The facility has hosted numerous IHSAA State Tournament games, in addition to hosting the Harlem Globetrotters, school events, political campaign rallies, various tournaments, and the 2020 Basketball Day Indiana. Today, Memorial Gymnasium is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and stands as the 28th largest gym in Indiana.
The Kokomo Wildkats boy’s basketball team has an extensive history of success including 69 Sectional Championships, 33 Regional Titles, 14 North Central Conference Championships, seven Final Four appearances, and a State Championship. The girl’s basketball team has seen equivalent success winning State Championships in 1992, 1993, and 2003.
“What an awesome experience it was to work with Kokomo High School at historic Memorial Gym,” said Jonathan McKean, Nevco Integrated Display and Scoring Consultant. “I’m extremely proud to be able to help Kokomo maintain the historic feel inside the gymnasium while bringing in a new, innovative product.”
This season the Wildkats upgraded their old Nevco Scoreboard at Memorial Gymnasium to a four-sided, full color, 6mm Nevco LED Video Display. Each side of the video display stands nearly 7’H and spans over 12’W, displaying almost 205,000 breathtaking pixels with unmatched brilliance and picture quality. In total, the new video display shines bright with over 819,000 pixels to capture the attention of fans and create the ultimate game-day atmosphere. Each side of the video display screens are separated with custom imprinted wedge panels which prominently display KOKOMO and WILDKATS. To complete the scoring solution, the Wildkats included a custom imprinted bottom which is emblazoned with the Kokomo Wildkats logo.
“Kokomo’s athletic programs and gymnasium have such a rich history which makes the project to enhance Memorial Gymnasium truly special,” said Nevco Senior Manager of Sports Video, Pat O’Brien. “The new video display will make a significant impact on the game-day atmosphere and make every event inside the gym a memorable experience.”
The Wildkats teamed up with Nevco’s HYPE Creative Services to develop and create numerous custom branded graphics and fan prompts to show on the video display including logo animations, games, and headshot templates to amp up and engage the crowd during contests.
The video display is operated through the use of Nevco’s proprietary Display Director™ Software, which enables game-day operations to be easily managed through one universal system. Game-days will be electrified with the powerful software which can be utilized to showcase live in-game action, instant replays, animated graphics, sponsorship messages, and more!
“Nevco’s reputation for long lasting, high quality products made the decision to partner with them simple,” said Nick Sale, Athletic Director at Kokomo High School. “The addition of the Nevco Video Display to Memorial Gymnasium will open up new opportunities for us in addition to providing a new experience for our Wildkat students, faculty, and fans.”
