The video displays can show live action on the field, instant replay and slow motion, in-game animations, graphics and sponsorship advertisements. Video and graphics are controlled by students who operate one or two cameras and run the images to the scoreboard from a control station. Houston ISD is currently working with local businesses and other organizations to generate revenue for the athletic program through signage opportunities and video advertisements and sponsorships to be displayed on the scoreboard during games.
Decision makers for Houston ISD chose Nevco to replace their scoreboards based on Nevco’s expertise with football video scoreboards throughout Texas, including the video scoreboard at Beaumont, Texas, which was arguably the largest high school video scoreboard at the time the purchase was made. (As of the writing of this article, Carthage High School in Carthage, Texas, has the largest high school video scoreboard, which was also built by Nevco.) Working with Nevco, the local display and scoring consultant and the school district developed and installed the current solution in time for the 2012 football season.
Knowing that Houston ISD had a limited budget, Nevco custom designed these scoreboards to give maximum impact at an affordable price. The new scoring solutions feature an 11′ by 19′ full color video display atop a 36′ wide scoreboard with electronic team names and Nevco’s exclusive Intelligent Caption™ feature for multi-sport scoring.
