Carthage initially requested proposals from several companies to solicit ideas on what kind of scoreboard / video display could be designed and built. Nevco was the only company who listened to and understood their wants and needs by delivering a concept for the largest video display scoreboard at a High School in the world. After the initial request, Carthage then conducted a comprehensive RFP process which concluded with in-person presentations to the scoreboard / video display selection committee. After all the presentations were done Nevco was unanimously selected by the entire committee for having the highest quality product backed by outstanding service!
The main component of this custom display and scoring system is the massive 44-ft wide by 26-ft tall, high resolution, full-color LED video display screen. The wide-screen format display is approximately 1,200sf, includes more than 258,000 pixels, producing more than 280 trillion colors and can show live action video, instant replays, live crowd shots, crowd-energizing graphics and animations, and video sponsorships and advertisements. As if the video is not impressive enough on its own, it is framed with custom rectangular truss structures and decorative lit letters split by the lit logo on top.
In addition to the impressive video display, this eye-catching structure includes a custom 58’W strip scoreboard with 20” electronic team names; ensuring fans will always know the latest score. Pushing the boundaries of the ultimate fan experience one step further, Carthage fully maximized their impact by adding a 4’ x 16’ full color message center below the scoreboard to prominently feature their sponsors and communicate information to their fans.
The state-of-the-art comprehensive control room, also provided by Nevco, has enhanced Carthage High School’s broadcasting and journalism curriculum. The game day control room staff is completely operated with students from the broadcast and journalism program. This equipment give the students an opportunity to work in a “real-world” video production every Friday night!
VIDEO DISPLAY IMPACT
Scott Surratt, the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of Carthage High School, says the screen is a luxury, but one that helps sets their program apart from other programs in East Texas as well as the entire state of Texas. He says the scoreboard has changed the game day experience for players, coaches, fans and their sponsors! He says his players feel like they are at Cowboys Stadium when they see their image on the big screen. Equally important, the opposing team’s players often stand in awe when they pull up to the stadium and see the big video in the sky for the first time!
